Unit Name: Computer Aided Design (CAD)

Description: The CAD program is designed to prepare the student who possesses manual/mechanical drafting skills with entry-level skills in computer-assisted drafting. Ultimately, these students will find entry-level employment in jobs using CAD and/or further their education in CAD in the community college. Also, people who are currently working in the field can upgrade their existing skills. Basic Training in Computer-Aided Drawing (CAD), including entity creation, editing, dimensioning, file management, and plotting. Students will take applications from a variety of disciplines.

Learning Target Outcomes: On completion of this unit, students will be able to: 1. Demonstrate how to start CAD and create a drawing using the commands available. 2. Demonstrate how to create and edit a simple 2D drawing, and create blocks and files. 3. Demonstrate how to incorporate text, dimensions, tolerances, hatching, create layers, and save drawing files. 4. Demonstrate how to create 2D geometrical drawings, orthographic views and detail and assembly drawings.
