Unit Name: Applied Materials
Description: The purpose of this unit is to enable the development of the elementary safety, knowledge and skills required for using and understanding the application of materials in engineering. This course focuses on the application of materials on the concept of material structures, Classification, properties, material testing, hot working process, cold working processes and heat treatment processes. All topics are illustrated through theoretical and laboratory exercises. The course will cover the following areas: The safe handling of materials, Iron Carbide, Cementite, Perlite, polymers and ceramic materials, mechanical and physical properties, ferrous and nonferrous materials, pure and alloy, thermoplastics and thermosetting plastics, Plastomers, Tensile testing, Brinell hardness testing, Fatigue test, torsion test, Hardness test, monomer, co-polymer, microstructure and glass transition temperatures.
