Unit Name: English for Academic Studies

Description: We welcome you to LNG501, English for Academic Studies. We hope that you will find this course enriching and interesting. This unit has the broad aim of helping learners develop research skills and developing proficiency in the four macro-skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing – to enable you to participate effectively in an academic environment. The course is offered in a Blended mode mode which means that students will not have regular face-to-face classes but a combination of online lecture, face to face tutorial and/or optional consultation time. Students are expected to learn to work independently and not only rely on classroom time. Students are also expected to participate in and complete weekly online activities. All the assessments are submitted online.

Prerequisite: A pass in year 13 English with minimum 50 marks, or a pass in Foundation English courses.
