Unit Name: Preliminary English I

Description: This course offers learners the opportunity to grasp various components of English. Students will work to strengthen their critical reading and writing skills. LNG301 also pursues goals identified in the descriptions of English in more complex and sophisticated contexts, offering additional practice in reading comprehension, vocabulary development, grammatical accuracy, and conversational and compositional fluency.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to understand the following 1. Understand a wide variety of spoken and written English. 2. Express themselves fluently and coherently in a range of spoken and written styles. 3. Obtain and use information from a variety of sources. 4. Form and express opinions on a variety of issues. 5. Understand and enjoy a variety of literary works and respond appropriately both orally and in writing. 6. Use interpretive skills to respond to questions that require recall, analysis, synthesis and/or evaluation of material learned in class or coursework. 7. Illustrate and/or use references to an author and a source in written and/or spoken text. 8. Utilize technological tools to support in-class and out-of-class work. 9. Utilize and apply research tools (e.g. Library and Internet) to find supporting information.
