Unit Name: Collection Development and Management

Description: This course aims to provide students with an overview of collection development and collection management for a library/information centre. The aim is to highlight the procedures of acquisition work in a library. It covers particularly user requirements, procumbent and finance procedure, bibliographic verification and collection evaluation.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: • Diagnose the major principles of library resource acquisitions in a library/information centre • Judge the current and retrospective selection tools • Judge the national and trade bibliographies. • Evaluate opportunities and challenges of the collection development and management.

Prerequisite: Any Level 5 LIS course or consent from the HOD.
