Unit Name: Information Sources and Services

Description: This course aims to provide the knowledge and skills on the basics of reference services of libraries and the resource categories. This course introduces the information environment and examines how libraries and information centers facilitate access to a range of print and online information sources through identifying and locating information. Students will gain knowledge and expertise in analysing the information needs of library users, formulating research strategies, and identifying relevant resources.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: • Diagnose the reference materials in libraries and information services. • Analyse the general practice of reference services and role of library staff in the process of information dissemination. • Formulate the guidelines applicable to reference services and reference interviews. • Employ and evaluate information searchingstrategies and information retrieval techniques.

Prerequisite: Any Level 5 LIS course or consent from the HOD.
