Unit Name: Introduction to Library Management

Description: This course aims to illustrate a librarians’ role in the supervisory capacity, such as planning, evaluation and marketing within the context of information services and organization. Competencies, strengthens, weaknesses of supervisors and personal potentials for leadership in the information age will also be discussed. It also discusses the strategic library plans, service marketing and service evaluation.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: • Interpret the functions of management. • Analyze the role of the library manager. • Analyse the common mission, vision and goals of a library. • Analyse the role of marketing and promoting libraries. • Evaluate the library services and provide comments for improvement

Prerequisite: Any Level 5 LIS course or consent from the University Librarian.
