Unit Name: Information & Communication Technology in Libraries

Description: This course aims to provide the knowledge and skills on the basic Information and Communication Technology Applications used for library and information services and the selection, management and use of standalone and integrated library management systems.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: • Determine how computers process information; • Use a personal computer system for various tasks in libraries; • Interpret how networks (LAN, WAN, intranet, Internet) operate; • Evaluate the significance of computers and networks in the creation, collection, consolidation and communication of information; • Examine the trends and ethical, legal and technological issues concerning the use of ICT in libraries and information centers.

Prerequisite: The student must have a pass in Form 7/Year 13 consent from HOD,
