Unit Name: Bibliographic Control I

Description: This course aims to provide the knowledge and skills to understand the basic concepts of cataloguing and classifications in library science. It will cover descriptive cataloguing, subject cataloguing and basics of classifications systems in introducing the students the significance of connecting library classification and cataloging systems with the unique needs of the local libraries.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: • Understand the functions of cataloguing and classification. • Identify the formation of AACR 2. • Develop bibliographic records using descriptive cataloguing with AACR2. • Assign access points for library resource and develop online records with reference to MARC formats.
