Unit Name: Criminal and Labour Litigation: Practice and Procedure
Description: Criminal litigation: Practice and procedure is designed to demonstrate the level of experience that one is required in all aspects of professional conduct and regulation that includes the key procedural requirements contained in the relevant criminal cases. The module covers an introduction to the criminal justice system, different stages in investigation, police powers, charging of the accused, rights given to accused, which court has jurisdiction to deal with the matter, bail applications being verbal in Magistrate’s Court and written in High Court, subsequent challenge of caution interview being voir dire, trial, sentencing policy, correctional mechanisms and appeal provisions in general.
