Unit Name: Commercial Law

Description: This course introduces students to the legal system of Fiji and the source of these laws such as the statutes, legislation and Fijian case laws, in addition to other countries business law like UK and Australia. Students will analyse the laws pertaining to commercial activities in Fiji, covering specific topics such as: the regulatory environment for Accountants, the business structures and rules of company formation, torts, contract law, law for principal and agents, role of the Fiji Commerce Commission, intellectual property and data protection. While examining these topics students are exposed to both statutory and common law – mainly to demonstrate and introduce the nature of commercial disputes and the legal complexities of their resolution.
