Unit Name: Project and Participatory Management
Description: Community development is a major function of all health professionals. This course has been designed to provide public health students with the essential background knowledge and skills to utilize latest tools and technologies to develop skills in analyzing community needs, and use this to plan, implement and evaluate projects. While it is important for students as future health managers or facilitators to consider all that is of best interest for all stakeholders, the students will be taught to conduct projects with a long rage of perspective in mind, for community development to be sustained. Things to consider would be the various types of development which are economic, social, political and human development. Participatory management is learning the skills to initiate development from a more “participatory” or “bottoms up approach”, where the community or population is involved.
Learning Target Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1: Explain the theories of development and correlate these with communitydevelopment. 2: Describe the principles and processes of Participatory Project Cycle Management(PPCM), including community involvement. 3: Apply the PRA tools to situational analysis, problem diagnosis and problem ranking. 4: Examine the key elements of project planning and management, including fundingoptions and requirements. 5: Explain monitoring and evaluation.
