Unit Name: Introduction to Human Resource Management

Description: The purpose of this course is to provide students with the understanding on the basic structures and functions of workplace relation systems within the region, in particular the socio – political, cultural and economic factors that have a bearing on the regulatory environment and employment relations procedures and practices. Furthermore, the course provide a basic overview of Human Resource Management terms and key concepts and theories.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1.2.1 Analyse the role of Human Resource in improving organisational and employee performance 1.2.2 Discuss the role of Human Resource planning relating to external environment, the current system, operations and human resource within the organisations and their interface with the organisation strategic plan. 1.2.3 Appraise the importance of policy in ensuring the best and appropriate practices are places especially in terms of recruitment and selection and equal opportunities. 1.2.4 Examine the role of employee relations manager in designing policy concerned with building relationships with employees on collective / individual basis, encouraging involvement and participation and handling major initiatives such as improved flexibility, site location and redundancy. 1.2.5 Design the system of pay and rewards to meet the needs of both the organisation and employees and setting up internal and external training courses. 1.2.6 Contrast the various human resource management trends and issues at international and local context.
