Unit Name: Health Promotion Theory, Policy and Practice

Description: This course is designed to provide students with a strong theoretical foundation in the concepts of health promotion and the social determinants of health and to consider how they may apply in Pacific communities.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, the students will be able to: 1. Examine and analyse the concepts of health promotion and conceptualize carrying out planning and delivering health promotion interventions. 2. Formulate strategies in implementing health promotion interventions, including programme design, monitoring, and evaluation. 3. Synthesize the methods used in health promotion and evaluate health initiatives in public policy and advocacy. 4. Conceptualize the Settings-approach to health promotion and identify such projects and their characteristics within Fiji or the region. 5. Design social media programmes for health promotion advocacy. 6. Examine health public policy for improving population health or reducing health inequalities.
