Unit Name: Applied Health Psychology

Description: This course explores the principles and practices of Applied Health Psychology, focusing on the psychological, behavioral, and social factors that influence health, illness, and healthcare delivery. Students will examine how stress, coping mechanisms, health beliefs, and lifestyle choices impact physical and mental health outcomes. The course emphasizes the application of psychological theories to real-world health challenges, including chronic illness management, health behavior change, and patient-practitioner communication.

Learning Target Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Explain the key predictors of health behaviors and evaluate various behavior change approaches. 2. Analyze the influence of psychoneuroimmunology on individual health outcomes. 3. Apply communication-behavior change models, including motivational interviewing and solution-focused therapy, when supporting trauma survivors. 4. Recognize stress and health-compromising behaviors in oneself and implement self-care and wellbeing strategies. 5. Analyze the physiological, psychological, and behavioral effects of trauma. on individuals, families, and communities, and apply relevant self-care approaches within health professions.
