Unit Name: Case Studies and Special Issues in Health Promotion

Description: This course focuses on studying the application of health promotion with particular focus on environmental health protection and promotion and other application areas within your discipline. It also gives students an opportunity to discuss their experiences around the theories of the health promotion approaches and other health prevention strategies that they have been exposed to in class and in life. Students will also have an opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills in health planning, implementing and evaluating health promotion programmes.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, the students will be able to : 1. Discuss foundation theories, models and concepts of health promotion. 2. Critique current approaches to community development. 3. Prioritize health issues for a health promotion intervention. 4. Apply principles of programme planning and evaluation of health promotion interventions and plan appropriate health promotion interventions. 5. Evaluate the effectiveness of health promotion settings approaches. 6. Develop a competency analysis of personal practice. 7. Develop a case study report on a Fijian and/or Pacific region health promotion project.
