Unit Name: Communication Strategies and Training Methods in Health Promotion

Description: This course provides you with the knowledge and skills of effectively communicating messages to individuals and families in the community using the basic health education methods. You will be introduced to the basic concepts and practices in health education and also how you can use some of the important tools in disseminating information or health messages to the individuals and the community. The course will also include the art of effective communication and health education. You will learn the basic cycle of health education, theories and ethics as well as different approaches. You will explore the nature of communication and its importance of communicating messages affecting norms and behaviours of individuals and communities. It also includes the use the media and other mediums to disseminate your health messages. Public health has an important role to play in disseminating information, but the information should be accurate and timely; a false information will be so misleading and also breaks networks.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, the students will be able to : 1. Identify elements of communication and different types of human communication 2. Demonstrate the social and cultural factors affecting the human communication. 3. Create a health communication campaign through effective health communication. 4. Identify training methods in different settings and choosing appropriate approaches 5. Create an educational material for health promotion. 6. Identify advocate\\\'s roles and responsibilities 7. Develop a communication strategy for a selected health issue.
