Unit Name: Health Systems and Social Determinants of Health

Description: The purpose of this course is to provide students with the basic understanding and concepts of a health systems structure based on WHO building blocks and other models. Students will be given an opportunity to learn about the social determinants of health in the Pacific context. An insight into the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) through their linkage with PHC (Primary Health Care), UHC (Universal Health Coverage) and gender will also be covered briefly. The basic concepts of Health economics including the role policies plays in the health system. The importance of nutrition and its different types and the role it plays in the early human developmental stages especially the first 1000 days with its relevance to SDGs will also be covered in this course.
