Unit Name: English II - for Health Care Professionals

Description: Communications, Research, Bioethics and Critical Thinking Skills for HCP is a combination of several key learnings that will help you as you prepare for any health-related academic programme FNU. To begin, this course is designed to improve the communication skills and specialist English language knowledge of prospective nurses, doctors, and healthcare professionals. In addition, health care professionals are often faced with ethical issues in their professional and personal environments daily. These Bioethics training sessions will provide useful background for students with a career pathway towards health care and medicine. This course will also explore the meanings and skills of thinking critically as a tool to help us establish our ideas, our views and beliefs and attitudes about the world. The course will also provide an introductory to research, as like in most other fields, the health profession relies heavily on research evidence to inform its policies and guidelines. This course will interestingly also explore the skill of motivational interviewing and soft skills. Motivational Interviewing (MI) is often recommended as an evidence-based approach to behaviour change. Soft skills will allow an individual to interact with others effectively and harmoniously and are rapidly becoming a determinant factor in the hiring process for many organizations. Using all of this content that you will learn specific emphasis will be on reading, writing, listening and speaking, contextualized to core areas of clinical patient care and public health. The course will be relevant, and we think it will be motivating, as students will do authentic tasks and activities based on everyday health-care scenarios. HPF402 will also rely on online activities from cited websites which focus on the latest advances in medical technology and health care, including the broad areas of public health. These will help to keep prospective health care professionals up-to-date and confident when faced with unfamiliar encounters in new environments.
