Unit Name: Introductory Horticulture

Description: This unit introduces the student to the concept of horticulture and its importance, its relation to other sciences, nutritive value of fruits and vegetables, classification of horticultural crops, relation between horticulture and other sciences, soil requirements, climatic requirements of horticultural crops, propagation methods, sexual and asexual methods of propagation, plant propagation by cottage and layering, difference between layering and cutting, plant propagation by specialized structures, grafting its importance and the methods of grafting, budding its importance and the methods of budding, Mist and micro propagation and the methods of micro propagation, stock scion relationships, methods of applying manure, nutrient management, micro nutrients and macro nutrients with their importance, hydroponics, aquaponics method and importance.
