Unit Name: Foundation History I
Description: This course is divided into two parts. Part 1 introduces students to Pacific history and Part 2 discusses the peopling of Oceania. The course provides students with skills in historical research and analysis, a chronological understanding of the past, and factual knowledge of specific historical periods. It builds an appreciation of national history as well as the histories of other Pacific peoples and cultures to enhance multicultural understanding in society. It also familiarizes students with the different approaches of historians, with debates and disagreements in historical interpretations and analysis, and with the insights provided by new evidence from archaeology and other sciences.

Prerequisite Sentence: Pass in Fiji Year 12 National Examination (with a pass in History) or its equivalent.
