Unit Name: Mineral Resources

Description: This Unit will introduce the student to mineral resources by way of a global overview. Metallic minerals industrial minerals (especially sand and gravel) and fossil fuels and water will be considered. Where they are found (onland and offshore) and mined. How is the consumption of these resources changing in the world of today as populations grow, communication technology develops, and we embark on a renewable energy world to reduce fossil fuel use and combat climate change. An overview of the occurrence of mineral resources in Fiji and its potential will be introduced, and compared with that of Papua New Guinea and Cook Islands.The Unit also introduces the student to 3-D thinking.
