Unit Name: Earth Surface Processes

Description: This Unit introduces the student to the processes in the ?Rock Cycle? and in particular the processes occurring at the earth?s surface through the ?Hydrological Cycle.? Physical and chemical weathering are discussed, followed by formation of soils, mass wasting and transportation of sediments as sand and gravel in streams and rivers to the ocean. Formation of deltas and beaches and the coastal movement of sediments as well as the formation of coral reefs will be covered. The Unit will also cover the formation and classification of sedimentary rocks including fossil fuels. The Unit also introduces the student to 3-D thinking.
