Unit Name: Earth Materials 2

Description: This Unit offers the student an introduction to the petrography of rocks; igneous (volcanic and plutonic), sedimentary and metamorphic rocks occurring in Fiji. The properties of minerals which affects their strength and durability and the strength and durability of the rocks in which they occur will be introduced. The latter part of this unit will concentrate on introducing students to the geology and geological history of Fiji. A local 1-day field excursion will be undertaken and reported on.
