Unit Name: FTV Basics of Direction & Production

Description: Introduction of the fundamentals of Film & TV Direction. Since the Director is considered to be the captain of the ship, hence he has to be well versed in the working of all the departments that go in the making of Film & TV Productions. Thus, this Integrated Course will inform students, basics of all the different skills and technologies involved in Film & TV Production, Screenplay writing, Direction, Cinematography, Sound Recording & Engineering, Editing, Acting; Art Direction, Film Appreciation, Ethics Governance and Communication. Films & Television touch the minds & lives of millions of viewers and hence the art of Film & TV making is also a very responsible one. The course will thus cover important aspects of Ethics & Governance and lead the students to very effective Communication skills too. The course helps students to efficiently perform basic business skills of a ?Direction? enabling them to make interesting entertainment / information, yet keep the content safe for general Viewers. Creative and aesthetic aspects of the role of a Producer, this course deals with the introduction to the roles and responsibilities of a Producer highlighting their creative contribution to the filmmaking process. Organizational and interactive aspects of the role of the Producer. Methodology and organizational skills for a Producer. An introduction to health and safety issues. Establishing standard practice for procedures, routines, protocols and language. An introduction to industrial and ethical issues associated with location filming and correct legal processes. The processes, procedures, knowledge and skills aspects of the role of the Producer.

Prerequisite: N/A

Prerequisite Sentence: Successful completion of Sixth Form or equivalence (12 years of continuous progression) or equivalent. Applicants may also be admitted to Certificate IV in Film & Television program who may not meet the 12 years of continuous progression requirement, but who are able to demonstrate their ability to succeed in programs at these levels on the basis of maturity, work experience, or prior learning.
