Unit Name: Introduction to Front Office Operations

Description: This programme is developed to meet the requirements of the Hospitality and Tourism Industry. The Hospitality and Tourism sector of Fiji including all categories of hotels and resorts, cruise ship and passenger vessels and other types of boarding houses require their staff to have knowledge of the core aspects of Front Office Operations, Hotel Reservations Procedure & Hotel Software Systems, Front Office Accounting Systems and Porter Service, Service Recovery. It is the primary objectives of this programme to ensure those entering these organizations do get these kinds of training. The review is critical because: • There is a need for FNU to supply qualified front office personnel to remain competitive in the local and international arena; • Restructuring the Accommodation & Front Office Programme became a priority due to new expectation arising from the transformation of the institution from Fiji Institute of Technology to Fiji National University; • Fiji’s economic progress depends on the support from the Tourism Industry and the need to constantly supply workers with relevant qualification due to the vast change of demands expected by the visiting tourist

Learning Target Outcomes: Define the nature of the hospitality industry and its relationship with a closely related tourist industry. Discuss the Attributes needed in any Hospitality Industry and classify the different types of hotel classification Discuss the functions of the Front Office Department and classify the different Roles and Responsibilities of a Front Office Personnel
