Unit Name: Fitting and Machining

Description: To enable the development of intermediate knowledge in skills required for competency in the basic uses of fitting and machining tools and workshop practice processes.

Learning Target Outcomes: After taking this unit students will be able to: 1. Measure and mark out a fitting job using the appropriate equipment. 2. Exercise cutting, filling and shaping material using the correct hand tools. 3. Exercise the cutting of internal and external screw threads using taps and dies. 4. Demonstrate the safety, setting out and operating procedure of the shaping machine. 5. Express through demonstration by completing a test piece using standard workshop techniques for lathe work, to close tolerances.
