Unit Code: FIN702

Unit Name: Public Finance

Description: Public Finance has been designed to enable students to integrate the analysis of government spending and taxing to basic economic theory. Further it also intends to develop an understanding on the application of the tools of econometrics to forecast how expenditure and tax policies affect individual behavior and how government sets policies. Public Finance, also known as Public Sector economics or public economics, focuses on the taxing and spending activities of government and their influence on the allocation of resources and distribution of income. In essence, students will have the ability to analyze actual policies and recommend classroom guidelines for government activities. This area will be assessed based on the individual projects handed to students. With current governance issues amongst the Pacific Island nations, deliberations on their cases will also be considered.
