Description: Introduction of the topic and general principle of plant productivity ?photosynthesis, C3 plants, C4 plants, CAM, plant productivity; Multipurpose trees in agroforestry, roles of nitrogen fixing trees/shrubs; Fodder trees, Fuel wood trees, Herbaceous species; Fruit Crops-need and relevance, General features of multipurpose fruit species; its suitability for ornamental purposes and windbreaks; Silviculture ?definition, purpose, kinds of silvicultural treatments, methods of reproduction, rotation, stand improvement; Thinning & Pruning ? definition, types, response of trees to increased growing space, stem growth, effect on wood quality; Site classification - nature of site or Habitat, use of site analysis, use of tree growth as indicator of site quality; Site preparation - line cutting, planting techniques, weeding; Timber Management - role of wood utilization, sustained yield.
