Unit Name: Fundametals of Forest Ecology

Description: The course covers and emphasizes on: Botany began with tribal lore about edible, medicinal, and poisonous plants, overview, global distribution, location of tropical rainforests, structure of rainforests, rainforest relationships, soils in the tropics, soil forming process and soil structure, ecological roles of insects, tritrophic interactions, impacts & types of interactions & defensive mechanism of plants, biodiversity & conservation issues in the pacific, flora and vegetation types in Fiji, wetlands, coastal vegetation and wetland communties, natural habitat, distribution of mangroves, groups of Fiji?s mangrove, importance and uses of mangroves, concept, importance, characteristics, habitat, morphology, threats, seagrass in Fiji. This course also designed to prepare students on the fundamental components involved in ecological concepts of forests and key components of the forest ecosystem that exists. It will allow students to better understand the skills and attitudes required in preservation and conservation of forest ecosystems.
