Unit Name: Fisheries Biology and Coral Reef Management

Description: The purpose of this unit is to provide information on: Study of food and feeding habits of commercially important fish. Qualitative and Reproductive biology ? maturity stages, study of internal and external features of important fish species. And the decline of coral reefs worldwide is a pressing concern for scientists and managers. Thus, it is important to understand the complex ecological relationships of coral reefs in order to determine how this diverse ecosystem will respond to current and future threats. This course will introduce students to the general biology, geology, and ecology of scleractinian corals and coral-associated organisms and examine the importance of sea grass and mangrove communities.
