Unit Name: Governance and Law for Environmental Health

Description: This course provides an understanding of the legislative framework within which Environmental health practitioners practice using the Fiji framework and related legislation in the Pacific.

Learning Target Outcomes: After completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Discuss governance and origins of Law under the Fiji system and the Pacific region 2. Explain applications of the Public Health and Protection Act & Regulations and related legislations in the Pacific region with ethical obligations 3. Demonstrate applications of the Food Safety Act & Regulations and related legislations in the Pacific region with ethical obligations 4. Explain the applications of the Quarantine Act & Regulations and the International Health Regulations with ethical obligations 5. Discuss applications and proceedings of the Town Planning Act, Subdivision of Land Act & Regulations & General Provisions, and related legislations in the Pacific region 6. Discuss applications of the Environment Management Act & Regulations and related legislations in the Pacific region 7. Discuss applications of the Fijian Village By-laws and selected relevant Local Government legislations with ethical obligations.
