Unit Name: Environmental Health Risk and Impact Management

Description: This course skills student in the basic assessment of risks and impacts of development activities on health and the environment.

Learning Target Outcomes: After completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Discuss the implications and health effects of pollutants (air, water, land and noise) through risk assessments and audits. 2. Conduct risk assessments and audits of living and working environments to deduce health impacts that may directly/indirectly affect human health observing ethical protocols.. 3. Carry out statistically sound field monitoring exercises. 4. Practice ethical proceedings of legal action for environmental pollution by instituting proceedings where necessary for protection of the environment to enhance quality of life. 5. Implement Health Impact Assessment (HIA) studying how vigorously it fits into the main environmental decision making process. 6. Apply the integrated process of Environmental Health Impact Assessment (EHIA) and its requirements 7. Apply the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) - legal requirement and the process
