Unit Name: Environmental Health in Practice

Description: This is a finishing course that draws together all the candidate has learnt over the duration of the programme, and finally prepares graduates for their roles as Practitioners of Environmental Health (EHP).

Learning Target Outcomes: After completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Explain the core roles, tasks and functions and responsibilities of the environmental health officer in the private and public sector. 2. Translate Standards and Codes of Ethics of Public Service Commission policies that influence the work and behaviour of environmental health officers. 3. Distinguish how social, cultural and economic factors influence the work of the environmental health officer. 4. Describe pertinent and common local, regional and global environmental health issues that influence the work of the environmental health officer. 5. Discuss leadership and management issues that are involved in the work of the environmental health officer. 6. Critique important role of the environmental health officer in evidence-based research and health information for informed decision making. 7. Demonstrate personal and professional development opportunities that contribute to advancement in the workplace.
