Unit Code: EVH619

Unit Name: Energy, Air Pollution and Health

Description: This course explores the interconnectedness of energy production, air pollution, and environmental health. Students will examine how different energysources impact air quality and human health, and will study policies and technologies aimed at reducing pollution and promoting sustainable energy solutions for a healthier environment.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Describe energy and air pollution and how they interact in terms of environment and health. 2. Explain energy and related pollutant sources and pollutant releases into the environment. 3. Describe the hazardousness of energy-related air and other pollutants and their movement through and effects on the environment and climate. 4. Explain exposure pathways associated with air pollutants - including human behaviours - leading to health risks and impacts. 5. Review clean energy technologies and pollution prevention guidelines to reduce air pollution. 6. Assess national, regional and international environmental health protection policies and strategies eg. Legislations, Global protocols, Conventions and agreements that address specific air pollutants. 7. Practicum: Prepare desktop assessments and field surveys to identify air pollution sources in a designated area and communicate findings.
