Unit Name: Climate change, mitigation and adaptation

Description: This Course introduces the student to climate change, how changes in the environment and how we mitigate and adapt in response.

Learning Target Outcomes: After completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Demonstrate basic understanding of the physical, chemical and biological mechanisms and feedbacks that regulate the Earth System 2. Critique the global response to climate change 3. Examine the impact of climate change to human health systems and human activity with ethical principles 4. Explain the use of various methodological approaches to approaching climate-related physical, socio-political and economic issues, including the prospects of mitigation of, and adaptation to climate change 5. Compare the international policies on climate change and adaptation to local public health and climate change policies 6. Assess climate change communication approaches to be able to adjudicate between conflicting evidence and theories on anthropogenic global warming, skeptical arguments and scientific counter-arguments.
