Unit Name: Water Quality Management

Description: This course provides students with health-related Water Quality Management skills, including treatment, distribution, and collection of water and wastewater.

Learning Target Outcomes: After completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Describe the physical, chemical and biological composition of headwaters and significant groundwater discharges. 2. Determine the water quality, water type of the water body in question. 3. Scope for simpler technology to be adopted for water treatment. 4. Identify the nature and magnitude of pollution and the source(s) of pollutants. 5. Measure the quality and quantity of wastewater flowing through each of the outfalls. 6. Scope for simpler technology to be adopted for sewage treatment. 7. Focus attention on environmental problems of pollution sources from unsewered environments, haphazard/indiscriminate dumping and agricultural chemicals with ethical observation.
