Unit Name: Occupational Health & Safety

Description: Occupational Health and Safety is about protecting worker health and safety though a healthy work environment. You will learn what a healthy work environment is, how to understand exposures of workers that potentially harm their health and how to intervene from an environmental health perspective

Learning Target Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Describe what a healthy work environment is that supports and protects worker health and safety. 2. Explain different types of hazards and exposures in the environments of the workplace. 3. Identify occupational diseases with their routes of exposure as well as modes of effect within workers in the workplace. 4. Discuss primary, secondary, tertiary OHS interventions (with ethics considerations) to reduce worker risk and impact. 5. Practicum: Execute OHS assessments of workplaces (incl ethics considerations) – prepare an intervention plan based on the assessments.
