Unit Name: Environmental Health Science (2): Healthy Environments
Description: This course is designed to provide you with the basic knowledge, understanding and basic practical skills of Environmental Health Sciences which, on any given day you will encounter as a mix of chemical, biological and physical risk factors. You will learn the basic science of each of these three risk types.
Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Review the Total Human Environment – what constitutes healthy environments 2. Describe sources of contaminants and pollutants including their fate and transport in our environments 3. Explain the basic health-related science of microbiology 4. Explain the basic health-related science of chemicals 5. Explain the basics health-related science of physics 6. Discuss genes, genomics, ethics and environmental influence over them 7. Practicum: Assessment of healthy and hazardous environments with ethics considerations
