Unit Code: EVH520

Unit Name: Environmental Health Science 1: Healthy Humans

Description: This course is provides an understanding of how we as humans are bodily (anatomical and physiological) affected by exposures to environmental hazards. While there are several modes of effect following exposuyre, we will look at the three main modes we discussed in EVH511, namely Poisioning, Infection and Injury. Our anatomy and physiology responds differently to to each of these Modes, leading to a potential diseased state. Thus for us to be healththy, we must ensure healthy environments for us - but where we might struggle to keep environments healthy all the time, knowing in a bit more detail what can happen if we don\\\'t, will assist you being an efficient Practitioner at making better intervention decisions.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Describe Poisoning, Infection and Injury in the context of environmental hazards and exposures 2. Explain Basic Anatomy and Physiology in the context of the body\\\'s response (effect) to hazardous environmental exposures 3. Discuss Poisoning (toxicology) in terms of bodily response to chemical hazard and exposure 4. Explain Infection in terms bodily response to biological hazard and exposure 5. Discuss Injury in the context bodily harm 6. Explain the role of EH Practitioners for intervention in Poisoning, Infection and Injury - including Ethics considerations
