Unit Name: Administration and Environmental Health Management

Description: Governance and leadership are among the major challenges that healthcare professionals face as they work to keep pace with rapid the evolution of the sector. This programme will give you insights into the nature of management in healthcare systems. The programme will also give you insights into the nature of the administration and management of environmental health services, and with reference to Fiji. This course is therefore designed for people who intend to work as Health Inspectors or Environmental Health officers and others who will work in the Government Ministries and local Town and City Councils. They will need to work towards ensuring that environmental health services are provided in accordance with the relevant provisions in the Public Health Legislation and relevant international legislations. The course provides valuable experience for working and learning as a group, interaction with EHOs in the field, MOH workers and understanding the works involved in the operation and management of the environmental health service.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, the students will be able to : 1. Explain the principles and concepts of environmental health administration 2. Describe the principles and basics of Environmental Health Management 3. Identify the roles of environmental health officers and administration of environmental health services structure. 4. Relate the linkage between environmental health services and the Health Services looking at the structure of the environmental health. 5. Examine local and international legislation that gives authority for the administration and management of environmental health programme. 6. Explain the roles of environmental health officers in the administration and management of environmental health services considering ethical obligations. 7. Examine the various components of the environmental health programmes and its implementation.
