Unit Name: Environmental Health and the Community Resilience
Description: A healthy environment is foundational to Community Resilience. When communities have access to clean air, water, and safe living conditions, they are better equipped to handle crises and bounce back more quickly. Conversely, environmental degradation weakens community resilience, making it harder to recover from hard times and disasters and maintain helath and overall well-being. In essence, fostering Environmental Health is an essential for building resilient communities that can thrive even in the face of challenges. In this course you will learn how to support community resilience through Environmental Health Practice.
Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Explain Community Resilience – what is it and what are ethics considerations? 2. Explain the context of Systems and Systems thinking 3. Discuss the context of Disaster (Disturbances, Shocks and Stresses = DSS) 4. Discuss resilience Capacity of communities in context of sensitivity, vulnerability (CSV) 5. Explain reaction of communities to DSS in terms of CSV and recovery (building back better) 6. Discuss Environmental Health Practice for Community Resilience 7. Practicum: Measuring resilience considering ethics approaches, and design communication report
