Unit Name: Environmental Law (Compulsory)

Description: This course is designed to give ?non-law? students an understanding of international and national environment laws and policies. Global environmental problems such as climate change, biodiversity loss, depletion of freshwater resources, the ozone layer, the international transport of hazardous waste, have become pressing political concerns in the international arena. The course covers the history and politics of environment law, followed by a study of the importance of the concept of sustainability in environment law. The module then looks at the range of Fijian environmental laws. Class discussions will include guest speakers and provide an opportunity to relate course readings to current topics and issues.
