Unit Name: Environmental Biology (Elective)

Description: This course aims to expose the students from both biology and non-biology background to the biology aspects required for environmental sciences ? to be literate in biological concepts and terminology. The course provides the student with a broad exposure to environmental science principles and environmental concerns at a basic level. Population and community dynamics, land and water ecosystems and their pollution are introduced with emphasis on local examples. The practical component includes water quality assessment and soil pH measurement and graph interpretations. Data collection, analysis and significance tests are included with studies of inter-tidal zone, line transects and quadrats.
