Unit Name: Earth Processes and Resources

Description: The course aims to introduce to the students the concept and importance of Earth Processes and their sustainable use: their conservation and management, the sustainable usage of natural resources such as water, fossil fuels, minerals and other resources which are essential for survival and development of mankind. With the increasing human pressure and a growing demand for finite resources, human beings need to learn new and better techniques to use and manage sub terrain mineral explorations. This unit prepares the students Careers in the field of earth sciences for higher and better service for the society. Education in environmental studies helps to make the individual environmentally aware and also develops the skilled manpower for solving environmental problems. Environmental Science graduates have ample employment opportunities within the key employers including Government departments and agencies responsible for environment, water conservation, climate change policy, agriculture and food, and primary industries. Other employers are private sector firms working in the resource sector and the Non -Governmental Organizations such a Secretariat of the South Pacific Community. Nonetheless recently revised units prepare students for the challenges of the coming time in geology, geophysics, geochemistry, geospatial techniques and environmental sciences.
