Unit Name: Emergency Medicine IV

Description: The College aims to further educate doctors who have graduated with Postgraduate Diploma in Emergency Medicine so that by graduation at a Masters level they should possess the following attributes: • Be a clinical specialist in the programme of study which will enable the graduate to practice as a consultant in the relevant specialty in the Pacific Island countries. • Have basic management knowledge and skills to prepare them to be in charge of a department. • Be able to research pertinent subjects relevant to their day-to-day activities. • Be able to practice medicine based on current evidence. • Be knowledgeable of the public health issues important to the practice of medicine particularly in their specialty area in the Pacific Island countries.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, the students will be able to: 1. Synthesise highly advanced knowledge and skills in critical care and resuscitation in the emergency department. 2. Synthesize expert skills in prioritisation and decision making in clinical care and non-clinical areas of emergency medicine. 3. Demonstrate the highest level of skill in communicating and relating to colleagues and patients. 4. Demonstrate the highest level of skill in collaborating with colleagues and patients. 5. Synthesise the highest level of skill in leading emergency care teams and managing emergency care services. 6. Demonstrate the highest level of skill in advocacy for patients, colleagues and the specialty. 7. Synthesize the highest level learning experiences for patients and junior staff relevant to emergency care. 8. Demonstrate the highest level of professional conduct.
