Unit Name: Computer System

Description: This unit is designed to provide a more detailed understanding of the operation of computer systems, with particular emphasis on the role and use of system software. The unit is also designed to develop basic skills in computer programmeming, using a structured high level language, C++. In the delivery of this unit, emphasis will be placed on integrating the ?theoretical? and ?practical? aspects of computing. In particular, this will involve the extensive ?hands-on? use of computer facilities, for programmeme composition and execution.
