Unit Name: Power Systems and Machines

Description: The overall purpose of this course is to provide the foundation Power Systems and Machines technology required by all electrical engineering paraprofessional irrespective of their area of specialisation. This course quantifies and analyses the risks associated with sustainable energy technology growth in electrical power systems, and developing appropriate models and methodologies to mitigate the risks and improve the overall system performance. The rapid increase in the installation of renewable energy sources in electric power systems to maintain quality, stability reliability and efficiency. This course reviews and extends the coverage of the basic principles Electrodynamics, Electrostatics, Magnetism and Electromagnetism which taught in High School and develops skills in the application of these systems in an Engineering context. In the delivery of this unit, emphasis will be placed on the integration of ?theoretical? and ?practical? aspects of basic Power Systems and Machines, through use of appropriate laboratory based exercises.
