Unit Name: Material Science for Trade

Description: The purpose of this unit is to provide an understanding of the non electrical areas of engineering science required by electrical trade personnel.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students should be able to: 1. Describe the basic molecular structures of materials and perform basic exercises relevant to atomic structures. 2. Explain the theory of linear motion and calculate problems related to linear motion. 3. Perform exercises relating to basic calculations of force, work, energy, power, torque, volume, density. 4. Relate through calculation the effects of force on motion and pressure. 5. Explain and relate to the processes of corrosion and apply procedures of surface protection.
