Unit Name: Electrical Building Practice

Description: The overall purpose of which is to develop the manual and tool based skills which are required for the construction, installation and maintenance of electrical equipment and services. This unit is mainly concerned with the development of skills in the use of hand and machine tools for the installation of electrical services and equipment in buildings.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, students should be able to: 1. Explain the procedures for the safe use of tools and the rules for safe working in the workshop. 2. Exercise the use of handheld power tools commonly used for site working in the electrical industry. 3. Exercise the use of a range of woodworking tools to drill and notch joints, make support centres for accessories, run fixing batons etc., and sharpen and care for wood tools. 4. Carry out measurements and cut chassis in brick and block work, cut pockets for accessory boxes, make good chases, bed-in mortar and fix accessory boxes. 5. Carry out measurements and cut ways for cables, conduit and trunking through building structures. Make good to required standards, around cables passing through structural barriers.
